The nude is among the most recurring motifs in Western art. It cuts so close to the bone of art, that for some artists it is considered a foundational subject: to progress to other subjects, one must first master the nude.

In this elegant work, Lewis Miller demonstrates his adeptness with the human form. A woman reclines before us, minimal yet arresting – the poetry of embodiment.

Miller is a winner and seventeen-time finalist for the Archibald Prize. In 2003, he was appointed by the Australian War Memorial as an Official Australian Artist and today, his work is represented in all public collections. For collectors of important contemporary art, as well as connoisseurs of the nude, this is a beguiling find.
